Points to Remember
Sunday September 27, 2020
The Light – which Jesus referred to many times – is vital to our lives. He
described himself, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows
me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
We generally think of light in terms of physical illumination. But Jesus
spoke of the Light as an inner force, the Light of God shining in our
hearts and minds. God’s Light guides us and transforms our lives for the
better. It shines through us to bring illumination to negative situations.
This Light within you is the Christ, a source of inspiration and intuition
that illumines your thoughts.
Jesus did not claim he was exclusively the Light. He said in Mt5:14-16,
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do
men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives
light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may
see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
But living from the Light can be challenging even when you seek to be of
service. Sometimes you might try to assist another in need, and find
yourself feeling down because that person does accept or follow your
guidance. If you allow yourself to be pulled down by that, you take on the
role of a “rescuer.” This term describes when your wellbeing is
dependent upon how another person conducts themselves.
How do we continue to be a caring person without becoming overly-
invested in another’s life? This calls for us to be continually willing to
support without needing another to accept our support. We give it, but
don’t need it to be accepted. We allow our life energy to be so strong that
it is not dependent on whether or how someone else handles themselves.
And yet, we retain our compassion for the other person even if they never
choose to change. This is evidence of living in the Light.
Living in the Light is also pertinent at this time preceding our national
election. The division of beliefs between our major political parties is so
great that each side seems to see the other as incompetent, immoral or
completely contrary to our nation’s wellbeing. Here also it is well for us
to step back and not be overly-invested. We can support our views, and
explain our positions – but not conduct ourself in a way that is contrary to
our core nature and beliefs. We can remain dedicated to the wellbeing of
every person everywhere.
We are not limited in the ways by which the Light can impact us. But, it
is important to not wait for the Light to come to you. Rather, you can
reach out to the Light, calling it forth. When you do, it will allow you to:
- Know there is always a way, always an answer
- Think bigger, not feel limited
- Understand you are safe, protected, watched over
- Never give up, knowing you can always rise above
- Experience that the Light always overcomes the darkness, as Jesus said
- See it only takes a little Light to make things work
- Learn for yourself that the Light pulls living things toward it
- Know the Guidance of the Light is always at handThe key is this. The Light is not merely symbolic, but needs to be
applied. You must embrace it, seek it out, and be open to it. Because as
you call forth the Light to take over your life, you will find yourself living
in the flow of the Divine.
