Points to Remember — “It’s Your Prerogative – Part 2”
Sunday, March 21, 2021
It’s always our prerogative to see clearly the Truth and to Be Positive. Prerogative is more than just choice. It is an exclusive or special right, power, or privilege. We have an exclusive right, power, and privilege to SEE beyond what the physical eyes show us and see CLEARLY the Light of God in ourselves and others.
The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz offers four action-oriented agreements that help us exercise seeing the Truth more clearly.
- Be Impeccable (without error) with your word. Pay attention to the words you use as your word attracts more of the same: complaining attracts more things to complain about – appreciating attracts more things to appreciate.
- Take Nothing Personally. When someone says something about you – it’s not about you; it’s about them and their current experience of you. You don’t have to believe it. If it upsets you, it’s because, on some level, you believe it. Even the good stuff is about them. Believing the good stuff feeds an addiction to approval which is disempowering
- Don’t Make Assumptions. Our assumptions often result in suffering and disempower our ability to see a greater Truth.
Why do we assume? Because our crocodile brain or the amygdala responsible for keeping us safe craves complete information. If there is missing information, we tend to make it up in our minds.
That’s okay if we were making up something positive & affirming, but the tendency is to center on the worst-case scenario to prepare for what might be needed. But, we can recondition our response.
Proverbs 3:7-8 Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life!
Run to God. Focus on what is greater within you; the power of God to protect & empower you. The love of God to provide for you. The Creative Power within you to create a world in agreement with your divine purpose.
Examine the worst-case scenario: Is it true? Is it absolutely true? Is it the Truth of you?
Investigate: Ask questions. “Was there a reason you didn’t return my call? How can we work together?”
Do something else: Focus attention on something fun, productive, or creative.
If you must assume: Assume the best-case scenario or allow for multiple scenarios or possibilities. Assume that you are one with God and know that with God, all things are possible
Jesus didn’t assume. His refusal to assume what the world told him was impossible allowed him to transcend the laws of physics. We call his works miracles, but why? We call them miracles because we believe or agree that these things are IMPOSSIBLE.
Imagine something you assume to be impossible is possible. How would it feel to no longer agree to the outer condition appearing impossible? What affirmation or prayer would you use to transcend outer appearances?
- Do Your Best. This agreement is much Like Unity’s 5th Principle: Knowing the Truth is not enough; you must live the Truth you know.
“Faith without works is dead.” [James 2:14-26]
If faith is not being expressed to the best of your ability, it is not moving, not living, not working. Living the Truth you know does not require perfection, only that you do your best from where you are right now in body, mind, and Spirit.
Ruiz tells us that “Your best will be different at different times. Your best will be different when you are well or sick, drunk or sober, seeing clearly or not seeing clearly. Whatever state you are in, it is always your prerogative to do your current best.
