Announcements
At the end of the Services, on both Wednesdays and Sundays, the Zoom audio and video will be opened up to all who would like to connect with one another. As we do, it can feel a lot like when we interact in the Lobby after a Service. Know that, for those who choose, you can merely observe and not be seen or heard. We hope you will join us online this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. (Zoom will be used after the main service on Sundays, for a time to connect and have a virtual “Coffee Hour.”)

Points to Remember
Sunday June 28, 2020
In three of the four Gospels is a version of the “Calming of the Storm.” In this story, including Mk4:35, Jesus is awakened by his disciples in the midst of a raging storm. He calms the sea by affirming, “Peace, be still!” In this, metaphysically, the disciples are like the boat on the sea of life, asleep to the Christ Within. The boat represents earthly consciousness where anything can and does happen. When it does, it is ours to respond.
Jesus states in this passage, “Where is your faith?” because the disciples were demonstrating great fear. Each of us, from time to time, encounters a storm in life such as a health challenge, a relationship difficulty, threat to our personal security or some other issue. When this occurs, a human reaction can be one of fear, which gives power to what you don’t want. Know you are much more than your personal self and that God will powerfully guide you, strengthen you, and empower you to a solution.
It is helpful to observe what Jesus does and does not focus on in this situation. He does not analyze the storm, describe what’s wrong with storms, nor talk about the danger storms lead to. He turns to God and affirms that God brings peace and calm. Then, he asks why the others do not have faith. The key point here is that faith does not come about in an instant, but rather must develop as a spiritual muscle over time. In focusing on the circumstances, rather than on God, people place faith in the problem. This is not to deny the situation exists; rather, it’s to not give it power, knowing God is in charge and will support us.
When a storm arises in our life, it is for a purpose. Fear, in and of itself, is not bad. Rather fear comes as a messenger. Accept the message. Examine it. Use the information – and send fear on its way. It is only when fear hangs around that it impacts you detrimentally.
If, instead, you focus your attention on God, on Truth, on your Ultimate Good, this will quickly begin to work on your behalf. In the midst of difficulty, it is vital to maintain spiritual focus, turning to the Christ Within, knowing God is the Solution. Storms can be a cleansing agent, help you gain equilibrium, and propel you forward to great achievement.
