“Living a Life of Peace”
Sunday, December 6th, 2020
When we embrace the Christian season of Advent, it can be life-changing. The word Advent means ‘the coming of something momentous.’ And this something is the wondrous awakening of the Christ Spirit in our life. We bring this about by committing ourselves, during each of the four weeks of Advent, to an attribute or behavior that will lead us to a fuller and deeper connection with our Divine Self.
This Second Sunday of Advent we focus on Peace. Jesus spoke often of Peace, especially toward the end of his earthly experience. In Jn14:2 he is quoted, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” When he says this, we know he cannot be referring to the outer world, because his life was subject to hardship, rejection, ridicule and abandonment – not what we associate with worldly peace.
But in the following sentence, it becomes more clear, “Not as the world gives do I give to I give to you.” Clearly, Jesus is speaking to an inner Peace. This is one that Jesus gained by choosing to allow God to live through him. And he did so in such totality that Jesus opened himself for God to express in and through him, to speak through him, to think and feel and relate and enjoy and totally live through him.
Jesus decided to be a channel through whom God might demonstrate.
Thus he was able to say, “When you see me, you have seen the Father.” He eliminated any separation between himself and God.
When you choose to connect with the Christ Spirit, the Peace Jesus spoke of will be evident in the form of ‘transformational moments.’ We share four transformational moments when you can be clear you’ve moved from a state of disorder or confusion to one of peace and harmony:
1st When you decide to move away from a state of mind dependent on outer circumstances and instead make a conscious decision to depend upon your Inner Guidance.
2nd When you move beyond any need to have God provide what you personally desire and instead seek primarily to be in partnership with God
3rd When you understand that happiness primarily comes, not from what you can get out of life, but rather from what you can give to life.
4th When you make the conscious choice to release any resentment and become an instrument of forgiveness.
Jesus demonstrated it is possible to live with clarity, ease and grace despite any difficulties around you. He showed you can live above the conflict in harmony and serenity. You can allow the Peace of God to fill you, renew you and restore you.
You can never gain Peace by re-arranging the outer things in your life. It is only possible through discovering your Real Self, your True Self, your God Self. This is the Peace that Jesus promised you. And this is the Peace we celebrate this second week of Advent.
