Points to Remember – Sunday August 16, 2020
Your Path to Liberation
During his last days on earth, Jesus said, “In the world, you will be persecuted, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 6:33) There is perhaps no greater persecution than to be treated as unacceptable for being born with a skin color deemed by some to be inferior.
There have been many times in history when people have questioned, “Why would a loving God allow this to happen?” But those of True Faith (meaning those who know God’s righteous outcome will prevail) hold to a higher consciousness of Love, Hope, and Joy.
I experience a paradox between my feelings of deep love for our country along with gratitude for the many persons who have served it – and my awareness of the brutal way persons of color have been treated in our history. Painful as it is, I have had to confront my own bias of wanting to believe that racist comments and news reports are the exceptions in our country rather than a reflection of what has been our nation’s history.
Once I’ve moved past the shock of realizing that I and our ancestors have allowed this, I’ve discovered an awareness of this paradox is liberating, allowing me to live and think honestly in alignment with my faith.
When we allow spiritual principle to reign, we welcome all persons into our lives just as all are welcome in God’s Kingdom. When we welcome those who are different in some way from ourselves, we discover something fascinating and comforting. We learn they do not represent a threat or competition for our own well being. Rather they enrich our lives and add a new dimension that expands our horizons.
Six practices of Jesus can be practiced by you, as well. This will result in a True Faith that will allow you also to ‘overcome the world.
- Total belief in an absolutely good God
- Conviction that there can never be a separation between you and God
- Knowing life is ongoing, assuring your good beyond this lifetime
- Practicing prayer and meditation to still the stormy seas of mind
- Embracing the Christ Spirit that directs Divine Ideas to you
- Seeing your purpose is to connect your personal self to the Divine
One special result of living in True Faith is that you will, more and more, embrace a welcoming spirit of inclusion – knowing all of God’s children are blessed and worthy of belonging. No one is left out in God’s Realm.
Announcements
At the end of the Services, on both Wednesdays and Sundays, the Zoom audio and video will be opened up to all who would like to connect with one another. As we do, it can feel a lot like when we interact in the Lobby after a Service. Know that, for those who choose, you can merely observe and not be seen or heard. We hope you will join us online this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. (Zoom will be used after the main service on Sundays, for a time to connect and have a virtual “Coffee Hour.”)
