Points to Remember – “You Can Rise Above” (Sunday, March 14, 2021)
The life of St Patrick was truly amazing. Born in western England in the 4th century, he was captured into slavery and transported to Ireland at the age of sixteen. He was forced into the highland meadows where he was mostly alone for six years. During this time, he reflected on life and on God, actually discovering his oneness with God.
An angel came to him in a dream and made him aware of a ship a long way away. He made his way there and was able to reunite with his family. Subsequently, he went to France where he approached a monastery and asked to be taught more about the nature of God. In time, he had the opportunity to go back to non-Christian Ireland where he wanted to teach the people about God.
Patrick had a number of attributes that contributed to his success. He had developed an orderly, organized mind that resulted in great leadership. In addition, while he was serious he was also playful. People also loved him because of his kindness. He was further highly focused on his mission and was determined to be successful.
But the overriding quality that allowed Patrick to succeed was, he followed God. You may ask, “How do I follow God?” And the answer lies in the teaching of Jesus that “It is done unto you as you believe.” And it’s vital to understand that you have two different beliefs – your conscious beliefs and your subconscious beliefs. The latter include your hidden beliefs that are baked into your being during many years of living.
The way to follow God is my maximizing your conscious beliefs at the same time you follow practices to dissipate your negative hidden beliefs. This allows you to become a magnet to God – and the practices include:
- Be willing to move from where you are in life to another perspective, and to do so knowing God supports you.
- Allow yourself to become still and, like Patrick, to connect with God.
- Converse with God. Ask God what is trying to happen. Listen to God.
- Become willing to practice one thing on a daily basis that is life-affirming (such as, acceptance, appreciation, creativity, forgiveness, love, giving, gratitude, service, understanding, etc).
You are here to break free from a world that seeks to engulf you so that you can be a living example of what is trying to emerge in, through and as you. Like St. Patrick, you can be so passionately alive with the Presence and Power and Love of God that your life is a beacon of light, a reflection of the Spirit of God expressing in the world.

We hope you will join us online this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. (Zoom will be used after the main service on Sundays, for a time to connect and have a virtual “Coffee Hour.”)
